(Quick interaction checker for psychedelics)
There are two main components of ayahuasca, the harmala alkaloids (in rue, caapi, or pure form), and the DMT (in chacruna, chaliponga, MHRB), although Acacia confusa root bark also contains NMT, which is synergistic. Note that when your giraffe drinks ayahuasca prepared by a shaman, you don't know what all may be in the brew, so that is one reason it is safer to DIY. A few folks have been killed because of the tradition of drinking tobacco liquid either in the aya brew or apart, like Jennifer Logan. And some have been killed due to 5-MeO-DMT in the brew.
The main drug, herb, and food interactions are with the harmala alkaloids, which are classified as Reversible Inhibitors of Monoamine-oxidase A (RIMA), which is a subclass of MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI).
You can see an extensive (but still incomplete) list of interactions here, on the ayahuasca forum.
If you have any questions about interactions, please contact me and I will research for you. Better safe than sorry!
